Selected Series
Viral Art
Drawing inspiration from layers and photography, my artistic journey has been deeply influenced by my extensive travels. I created a monotype using the gel printing process and then hand-painted the monoprint. I aim to create a fusion of memory and a sense of place in my creations. While learning this technique, I posted on my various social media accounts documenting my journey and the artworks that I created. In the first few months of making these videos, I had over 10 million views of this series. See more on my Instagram, TikTok and YouTube @bluelavaart
Exposures
The themes in this series aim to create a platform to investigate our place within the wider cultural and emotional landscape focusing on identity, memory, nostalgia, and narratives that glorify the individual subject as well as the connections to others and place. They highlight the juxtaposition between subject and place with some connections to powerful women in art history. These works are created in oil and form puzzling double exposures.
The Borders We Create
This exhibition is focused on the borders we create and the tension that is fueled by a line on a map. It also asks the question, should we all be citizens of the world? Borders change over time sometimes through violence, other times land is traded or sold peacefully or it is parceled out through international agreements. Borders can be open or heavily militarized. They can be geographic or established through agreements between political or social entities. What is a border but a line drawn on a map?
Closed Eyes
Eyes are the windows to our souls but when they are closed what happens. Closed eyes are a metaphor that can open-ended interpretation. We close our eyes for rest and peace but in doing so we lose connections to our family, community, and sight of what is really going on in our world. However, you cannot survive with your eyes wide open all the time.
The series contains a variety of media from collage, pen, paint and mixed media.
Envelop
Envelop is a series based on healing from trauma. The series is both photographic and is ideally viewed as a large scale installation or in video format. These are only a few images to represent the body of work.
