The Space Between (After Whistler's Mother)

2023

40x30 cm

Oil on canvas

This oil painting, titled "The Space Between (After Whistler's Mother)," is a captivating exploration of connection and separation. Measuring 40x30 cm, it was created in 2022 in Frankfurt, Germany. The painting is inspired by James Abbott McNeill Whistler's iconic work, "Arrangement in Grey and Black No. 1" (commonly known as "Whistler's Mother"), and features a solitary elderly man, mimicking the pose of the seated mother in Whistler's painting. The figures are placed opposite each other, forming a Yin Yang, and are connected and separated by overlapping dots in a vibrant color palette. This unique composition invites the viewer to consider the space between the figures, both physically and emotionally.
