Art 1 6 Spheres
![]() |
Art I - Draw 6 spheres on one page using colored pencils. Holding the paper horizontally, make two rows of three spheres. You may use a compass to lightly draw the circles. Set the radius to slightly less than 1 1/2". This will make each circle a little more than 2 1/2 " in diameter. On a separate scrap sheet of paper, draw a line diagram of the color wheel showing the three primary colors and the three secondary colors. This will enable you to figure out what are the six different combinations of analogous colors. Then on the circles, lightly hatch and crosshatch, gently building up layers of "dry glazing" to create a sfumato effect of chiaroscuro, the six different sets of analogous colors. Figure out which color is the lightest, mid-range, and shadow. Remember the 5 steps of chiaroscuro: highlight, halftone, shadow, reflected light, cast shadow. For example, with the combination of yellow, orange, and red, yellow will be the highlights, orange will be the mid tones and reflected light, and red will be the shadows. An example of all six combinations will be shown in class. |
